Bob has become the world’s oldest dog. He is now 21 years old — Bob was born in 1992. The family had many dogs at the time and decided to get rid of the puppies. Luckily, Bob was just forgotten and escaped the fate.
Doggy Bob was born in 1992 in Portugal. The family already had many animals and decided to get rid of the puppies.
«Unfortunately, at that time, people who could not have too many animals at home thought it was normal to bury the puppies in a hole so that they would not survive,» explained Leonel, the dog’s owner.
The puppies were taken away and they just forgot about Bob. So he escaped death and stayed with the family. He soon became a full family member and best friend to Leonel, who was only seven years old at the time.
Bob is a purebred dog. He is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo — a Portuguese breed of large guard dog.
On 1 February, at 30 years and 266 days old, the doggie became the oldest doggie in the world. He was born in 1992, according to the Veterinary and Health Service of the Municipality of Leiria and the Portuguese SIAC pet database.
The dog is still very sociable, though not as active as he used to be. He now often lies down or spends his time sunbathing in the backyard with the cats.
